Honoring Excellence in Robotics: Matthew T. Mason Awarded the Prestigious AAAS Fellowship

Matthew T. Mason, PhD, has been elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).  Dr. Mason, Chief Scientist at Berkshire Grey, is recognized for his pioneering scientific, leadership, and educational contributions in robotics.

This distinction places Dr. Mason among a select group of individuals recognized for their unparalleled contributions to science and society. Dr. Mason’s notable advancements in robotics signify a lifetime of achievement.  

In addition to his leadership role at Berkshire Grey, Dr. Mason is a distinguished researcher in robotic manipulation and professor emeritus at Carnegie Mellon University, his academic home for over forty years, where he served as Director of the CMU Robotics Institute from 2004 to 2014.

The AAAS Fellowship tradition, dating back to 1874, represents a lifetime acknowledgment of scientific achievement and integrity. Esteemed past recipients include pioneers such as W.E.B. DuBois, Ellen Ochoa, Steven Chu, and Mae Jemison, whose contributions have left a lasting impact on the scientific landscape.

Matt will receive his prestigious award this fall at a ceremony in Washington, DC and will be featured in the AAAS News & Notes section of the journal Science later this month.
